Social media usage statistics 2026: which platforms reach B2B buyers

Which social platforms do Americans actually use in 2026? The best public answer is Pew Research Center’s 2026 survey of 5,511 US adults, conducted January 30 to June 18, 2026: YouTube 84%, Facebook 70%, Instagram 51%, TikTok 37%, WhatsApp 33%, LinkedIn 31%, Snapchat 26%, Reddit 25%, X 18% and Nextdoor 18%.
Headline reach is the wrong number for a B2B marketer, though. Your buyers skew college-educated and higher-income, and Pew publishes those cuts too. Re-ranked by who they reach rather than how many, the list changes: LinkedIn reaches 51% of college graduates, Reddit 36%, and TikTok drops from 37% overall to 28%. Below, the full numbers and what they mean for channel planning.

| Nextdoor | 18% | 23% | 23% | 21% | 1.28 |
*B2B index is our calculation: share of college graduates who use the platform divided by the share of all adults. Above 1.0 means the platform over-indexes on the educated audience most B2B buyers come from. All usage figures are Pew’s: the share of US adults who say they ever use each platform.
Five things the 2026 data tells a B2B marketer
1. LinkedIn is the most concentrated B2B audience by a wide margin. Only 31% of US adults use it, but 51% of college graduates do, an index of 1.65, the highest of any platform. Use climbs more steeply with education than on any other platform: from 13% of adults with a high-school education or less to 51% of graduates. That is the quantitative case behind our LinkedIn organic playbook and our LinkedIn ads guide; the platform’s own membership figures are in LinkedIn statistics 2026.
2. Reddit is now bigger than X, and better targeted. Reddit reaches 25% of adults against X’s 18%, and 36% of college graduates against X’s 22%. Reddit’s index (1.44) is second only to LinkedIn’s. It is also where buyers ask for unfiltered recommendations, and Pew found Reddit among the three most-cited sources in Google’s AI summaries, alongside Wikipedia and YouTube. Our Reddit marketing guide for B2B covers how to show up without getting banned.
3. X has been shrinking for five years. Pew’s series shows X (formerly Twitter) at 23% of adults in 2021, 22% in 2023, 21% in 2024 and 2025, and 18% in 2026. It still over-indexes slightly on graduates and higher earners, so it is not dead for B2B, but it is a niche channel now. We updated our guide to using X for B2B with that in mind.
4. TikTok is huge and under-indexes on your buyer. TikTok’s reach doubled from 21% in 2021 to 37% in 2026, but only 28% of college graduates use it (index 0.76). It can still work for B2B brands with a consumer-friendly story, as we show in TikTok for B2B marketing, but it is a reach play, not a targeting play.
5. YouTube is the one platform almost everyone uses. 84% of adults and 90% of college graduates. If you can only make one kind of content beyond text, make video that can live on YouTube; see B2B video marketing in 2026.
How to turn reach into a channel plan
Reach tells you where the audience is, not where they will listen. A practical way to use these numbers:
- Start with the index, not the size. For B2B, rank channels by how concentrated your buyer is there (LinkedIn, Reddit, WhatsApp, X) before how many people use them.
- Match the format to the platform. LinkedIn rewards text and document posts from people; Reddit rewards genuinely useful answers in existing threads; YouTube rewards searchable how-to video.
- Pick one primary and one secondary channel. A small team that tries to be everywhere ends up nowhere. We cover the cadence in our content distribution strategy.
- Measure beyond the platform. Most B2B social influence never shows up as a tracked click; it surfaces later as branded search and “I saw your post” in sales calls. That is the dark social problem, and it is why self-reported attribution belongs on every demo form.
About the data
- Source. Pew Research Center, National Public Opinion Reference Survey of 5,511 US adults, January 30 to June 18, 2026, margin of error ±1.8 percentage points. Respondents could answer online, by mail or by phone.
- Question. The share of adults who say they ever use each platform. It measures reach, not time spent or frequency.
- Trend caveat. Pew changed survey mode in 2023 (phone to web and mail) and again from 2024 (web, mail and phone), so small year-to-year changes should be read cautiously. Pew did not publish a 2025 figure for LinkedIn or a 2026 figure for Pinterest.
- Our calculation. The B2B index divides the college-graduate share by the all-adult share. Pew does not publish it; we derived it from Pew’s tables.
